Fret buzz is not covered under warranty in most cases, and here's why.

Solar Guitars are set up at the factory with a specific string gauge and action height optimised for standard tuning. Fret buzz is almost always the result of a setup change rather than a manufacturing defect — the most common causes are:

  • Changing to a lighter string gauge — lighter strings have less tension and pull the neck less, which lowers the action and causes buzz
  • Lowering the action — reducing saddle or nut height beyond the factory spec reduces the clearance between strings and frets
  • Changing tuning — drop tunings and lower tunings reduce string tension and can cause the same effect
  • Climate and humidity changes — dry conditions can cause the neck to shift slightly over time

In all of these cases, the guitar simply needs to be set up correctly for your string gauge and tuning. This is normal maintenance, not a defect, and can be done by any guitar technician or luthier.

What is covered under warranty is a genuine manufacturing defect — for example, a fret that is uneven or protruding from the factory, or a structural issue with the neck. If you believe your fret buzz is not related to a setup change, please contact us at support.solar-guitars.com with a short video of the issue and we will assess it.

Our recommendation: before submitting a warranty claim, try restoring the factory string gauge and action height, or visit a local guitar tech for a setup. In most cases this resolves the issue completely.
